PHOTOGRAPHY // ABBEY MOORE

First of all, a huge thank you for all the positive feedback we’ve received after finally posting the “homecoming” post… which clearly I had been avoiding. And I mean it when I say HUGE thank you… HUGER than the two silly words “thank” and ” you” could ever express. And yes, I know “HUGER” is not a word. But you get it.

To everyone we met along the way… to every one who leant a hand, to everyone who has shared our story with others… and to everyone who completely randomly stumbled upon this blog. Receiving emails from strangers who had never heard of “The Great Loop” and who are now interested in traveling it, is fantastic. That is my whole purpose here, re-introducing this adventure to my generation, and to those who never even knew it existed. It is possible. If Katie and I made the full circle without sinking a boat, trust me, so can you.

Second of all, I bring to you exciting news… we are doing a presentation on our adventure for the very first time Tuesday, Jan 13 at the Glen Arbor Township hall 7:00 PM !!!!(Leelanau County, MI). Condensing two years into 30-45 minutes is an adventure in itself. Quite frankly we are tempted to just tell silly stories until you are all baffled that the two of us actually came out alive. Weaved in with some of our best and worst of days, you will get a clear over-view of the logistics… with time to ask us those questions you have secretly been wanting to know. Lets go ahead and get two questions out of the way that no one ever dares to ask…

“Where did you go to the bathroom?”  –  A bucket.

“Did you ever get bored and kiss?”   –  Seriously? No.

The Glen Arbor Women’s Club is hosting us, and it would be so great if you could join. HOWEVER, if you can’t, there is yet another opportunity to listen in the following weekend at the Chicago Boat Show! Look for us at the “Cruising Outpost” booth.

  1. Congratulations to both of you amazing young women. We are happy and proud to know you. Good luck in your presentations. Please say hi to Jodi & Bob for us. We are still enjoying sailing in the Bahamas and plan to head further south in the next month or so… hope to run into you again soon. Be well, Dave & Renee (S/V Alegria)

  2. We didn’t miss a single post of yours since you began. I would like to request that you have someone do a video of your presentation and put it on YouTube or at least send it to your followers. We’re down here in Stuart Florida and can’t come in person to see your show. I’m not sure I would come up north right now for anything as it’s 74 here but the wind chill is a brutal 72. You guys have been a lot of fun to follow and you (Jessie) are a very good writer and photographer. I would buy the book I hope you decide to write. Thanks for taking us with you. Bob & Cynthia

    1. My thoughts exactly ! You have inspired multiple generations of sailors and would be (will be!) adventurers with your writings, photos and ‘she’nanigans 😉 So, the more you can get up & posted the better to encourage others to take that all important “first step” in such a life changing journey. Loved every bit of every blog, hope you keep sharing and enjoying life as you live it.
      Thank you,
      Thom

  3. I am so sorry I can’t attend your presentation. While we live aboard and cruise out of charlevoix from June yo October each summer, at this time of year we are florida (Amelia Island). I would definitely attend if you could repeat next summer, but I understand that is a lot to ask. I thoroughly and vicariously followed your adventure.
Count on me too to buy the book when you write it.

  4. Make sure your dad (and friends, too, of course!) posts all your appearances on Facebook. Sorry we are not in the county this winter and will miss your Glen Arbor presentation. I’m sure it will be LIVELY!!!

  5. It would be wonderful if your presentation could be video recorded and then posted on Youtube or some other video hosting site.

  6. Congrats.
How are you finding the return to land lubbers? It is hard getting used to days without the adventure of seeing a new place, or the challenge of dealing with wind and waves. One thing you said was sure right, we were all naive when we started and came home experienced sailors. Hang the gold burgee proudly.

  7. Oh boy, I can’t believe I only just found this blog. I’m a bit late to it, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy reading back about your journey, it looks amazing. And the photography is just stunning, I wish I could take photos like that of my own boating adventures! Sincerely hoping you beautiful girls keep going with more sailing adventures, it keeps me inspired. My partner very much wants to sail the great loop, but we live in Aus, so it would be quite a sail just to get there! Maybe one day though… never say never.

  9. Janis and I went to Chicago Boat Show on a whim to see Kim R. and some Looper dudes talk. We sat behind your family and watched how proud they were of your achievement. As a father of four young ladies, I just shook my head. So when I got back to Big Bone, KY (Cincinnati) I looked up your blog to better understand your adventure. Blogs are always written backwards with the chapters all mixed up. It took 20 hours straight, but I finished it all but the ending. Where is it? OMG cliff hanger. (did see the “dad” video at the show so I know you lived) Re-Googled! Found it! Finished it! Loved it! And nice ending, I know they are hard to write.

Thank you for breaking up the winter blues with your stories. I’m glad we went to Chicago to see you and have been sharing your story here with the Boone’s Landing crowd.

    Good luck,
    Chris
